Switchboard Upgrades

Is your switchboard up to current standards?

With the rise in renovation TV shows more and more homeowners are taking the plunge to modernize their older style homes. One major factor that often gets overlooked by renovations is the switchboard upgrades.

How can our electricians help today?

Why upgrade my switchboard?

The demands for electricity are higher now than ever before. Tablets, big screen TV’s, microwaves, computers and other types of electrical equipment are constantly plugged into power sources throughout the home. All of this demanded power is provided and regulated by your current switchboard.

Simply put, modern power demands require a modern switchboard to meet those demands. Using an inadequate switchboard can result in electrical problems such as electrical faults and electrical shocks. The risk of electrical fires is dramatically increased compared to that of a modern switchboard.

What is involved in upgrading a switchboard?

When you have your switchboard upgraded you will have safety switches installed on all circuits for added personal safety. The circuit breakers will also need to be replaced with modern breakers that can handle heavier energy loads. Fuse boxes will be swapped out and thicker gauge wire that is more suited will be installed.

All of the work that we provide to your home in relation to switchboard upgrades will meet and exceed any and all Australian Standards.

Electrical safety

We take electrical safety very seriously and as a result are very thorough when conducting any kind of electrical work in your home. Even after your switchboard upgrade is complete we take the steps to make any future adjustments to your switchboard easier.

When do I need to upgrade my switchboard?

There are some telltale signs that it might be time to upgrade your switchboard or could also mean that there are more underlying electrical issues in your home. It is always a good idea to have your switchboard as up to date as possible. Although some common signs are:

  • Constant flickering of lights throughout the home
  • Blowing fuses regularly
  • Circuit breakers tripping regularly
  • Electrical shock from switching lights on and power points
  • Plugs that are plugged in getting hot

Electrican FAQ

What should you do if your safety switch keeps tripping?

If your safety switch is constantly tripping, this can indicate a larger issue that needs addressing. More than likely, a faulty appliance is setting off your safety switch and causing it to trip off the power.

When should you call an electrician?

More often than not, we call electricians for help when there’s a significant issue with an appliance in our home - usually in an emergency situation! Don’t hate us for saying this, but prevention IS the best fix when it comes to electrical problems.

Circuit Breaker vs Safety Switch

A safety switch is designed to protect you, and those around you, from an electric shock from a leaking current. A circuit breaker, on the other hand, is designed to protect the appliances, circuitry and wiring within a building from a current overload.
